I plan to make my computer a triple boot system. I am making it this
way based on the programs I want to run. My 1# priority to to make
every game I have run properly on this system. My 2# priority is to
make Linux run so that I can do soemthing about microsoft. My 3#
priority is to install Windows Xp even thought I hate it and it is the
main reason I became intrested in linux.
1. For my games to run, I will install windows 98. I plan to make a
couple of fat 16 disks, 2gb each, one to install it on, and one to put
more programs on. I will also leave the 4 scuzzy disks as fat 16. I
would rather not reformat them. I am chossing fat 16 because it is the
only file sysetm compatable with msdos. I have alot of dos games, and
althought I still have a working 486, I would particularly like the
turn based stratagy games (heroes of might and magic and master of
magic) to run on it. I also have alot of windows games like Ultima
Online that tend to hang up under xp.
3. Then I will instal windows xp. I will install it on fat32 the
drive.
I don't like windows xp. It has some serious driver problem that
causes all my games to crash, except for the snes9x emulator. I tried
running the Heroes of might and magic2 editor and Ultima Online on it,
and the horrible piece of microsoft completly hung up till I had to
hard boot it after about 15 min to 1/2 hour of running the games.
Also, I tried to run some ancient dos game (ultima 1) and it ran, but
only in black and white. The game has 16 beautiful colors. Maybe if I
do a clean install it will fix all the compatibility problems. When I
installed it I just did an upgrade. I'm not going to count on it
though. As you can imagine, microsoft was no help in this matter. They
need to realize they are going to be on the losing end.
There are two reasons I am installing xp though.
1# to make my parents happy
2# incase i ever need to run anything that is only xp compatable (like
for school)
2. Then I will install Linux. I think Linux is the future of
computing. I see microsoft going down the toliet. I see bill gates
losing his fortune (unless of course he sees it too and sells all his
microsoft stock) I don't recommend buying microsoft stock at any price.
Maybe microsoft will still be around, but they will no longer sell
operating systems.
If someone could give me a nice little step by step guide it would be
very helpful.
