I was a PC user quite a while ago but have been using Macs for quite a while. I recently convinced my mom to buy a new Snow iMac (nice machine) and since she has the new iMac now she gave me her old PC. It's not speed demon or powerhouse but I would just like to use it to gain some Linux experience. It's a Monorail PC with a Celeron ("Celery" :)) Proccesor and some odd number of RAM around 52 MB. I think that is has a 3 or 4 GB HD. Can Linux Mandrake run with less than 64 MB of RAM? I have some CLI experience from playing around with the Unix Terminal in Mac OS X but am no were near experienced and that's why I've chosen Mandrake for my distribution.

thanks

mandrake could probably run under 64 megs ram, but you best bet with that type of system is redhat or slackware

Yes. But not well. Mandrake is a great place to learn Linux, but for just that reason, it is a bit of a resource hog. Do yourself a favor and add some RAM. You'll be happier with Drake, and more likely to stick Linux out when it gets frustrating and confusing.

if it's pc133 DIMMs you need, ram is dirt cheap these days..... might as well grab a 128mb dimm and then rock and roll.
