I've read more books than I can remember on Administration for Linux and Unix, but with my current knowledge, I've gone about as far as I can go. I'm guessing, in order to go further into sys admin and development, I have to delve into the realm of programming. Basically, what I'm asking is if anyone out there could recommend a good place to start and any good books that would help me get started and not make me want to lock myself up in a padded room.

Any help would be great. I'm trying to get deeper into the *nix world and away from MS.

Thanks fellas.

I don't have any real programming experience. I messed around with visual basic, and of course Basic (on my commodore 64 years ago :D ) but has all pretty much slipped my mind as I don't use it anymore. I will check out the programming forum too, but I was just being lazy and didn't really feel like searching through all those posts.

I'll still check out the other forum, but if anyone has any suggestions I would still appreciate it.

Thanks

http://www.linuxnewbie.org/bookshelf/bs-5.html

plus loads of programming tutorials all over the web.

All distros come with just about all the tools you need, usually including a IDE such as KDevelop. You should also have documentation that will help you get startedinstalled on your system.
