Click to See Complete Forum and Search --> : need major mandrake help
Just installed 7.2 and I can't fugure out much. I need some documentation that tells me about confugyring the desktop stuff. I have installed all the window managers that came with the d/l and can use them all but can configure none of them. I thought maybe I didn't know how to use KDE since that is what it initally started with. So I created .xinitrc and am using enlightment alone. I get no access to the Gnome menu and even had to open a terminal and start this CLI. I tried opening gnome and I can click on netscape and it works so I think I just need some help getting around. I checked out the online docs at mandrake .com but it was of no help since it didn't even mention window managers. Please help me, I kinda like it so far but need to personalize. Thanks

KDE is configured in the "K" menu (like Windows Start menu). Go to the "Control Center". This is where you customize KDE.

I got into there but could find nothing about configuring the window manager. I found how to update and add to the menu but how do I get it to add in the applications? There appears to be nothing installed and I know that is not true, I installed most everything and will not install the next time. How do I fix this or did I get a bad install? I don't mind reinstalling if necessary but I would like to figure it out instead.

On the task bar for KDE the fourth icon should be a monitor with what looks to be a video card in front of it click that and you will be in the Control Center to configure K

I got around the enlightenment problem by d/l the enlightenment-conf file. Apparently Mandrake 7.2 does not come with it, but that fixed that prob. Now if I could just get it to stop failing on bootup with a dhcp not able to find IP. I have it set to manual in linuxconf but it still makes me manually add the ip and route each boot. But so far I like it, nice and clean. GNOrpm doesn't work but I got rpmfind to work from command line.
