Hello

I have recently installed a RH 7.3 linux on a P I 90 (running 100) with 48 MB RAM. I am running NFS, SMB and normal gateway on it. Tehsecond project was to also use it as an MP3 player. No comes the problem.
I can fairly run mp3's, but it keeps on skipping frames and glitches a lot. I tried the -b with a lot of values from 64 -2048, but nothing seems to help. The odd thing is that when I turn off every service running (stop nfs, smb, routing etc.) it still gives the same sloppy sound. Is there a way to get ridd off this?
Or might there be a way to priotise (hope that is english) the mpg123 command?
thx in advance

I used MP3SB (http://www.igalaxie.com/ltt/mp3/) on a Dell P166MMX with 48MB RAM for a few months earlier this year. With the MP3s on another drive, I fit the OS (Debian), the custom mpg123, and the MySQL database on one 500MB hard drive. I used the S/PDIF output from a SB Live! to pump the audio to my home stereo. Sure, it skipped as I surfed the MP3 server's web pages, but otherwise it wasn't too bad. I even ran edna (edna.sourceforge.net, I think) to stream the MP3s from the box to my PC at work. The box was headless and thus I never tought about running X. All interaction was done via the network (telnet/HTTP with WebMin).

Now that I have a beefier platform (Celeron 550, 256MB RAM), I run WinXP and have added "remote" scanning and print server capabilities.
