Is there a way to turn down the volume of your modem when dialing your ISP?
I know when I use Drake I can adjust it on or off in kppp. Can't remember if you can adjust volume levels other than that.
Now I'm running Debian. I don't have kppp. Do you know how I can adjust it in Debian?

It's /usr/bin/rp3-config under RH 7 Gnome/Sawfish. Ans yes, you can adjust the volume

what are you using to dial? You can generally
just send the modem some commands like M1L1 (low) or M0L0 (off) when you dial up. I use wvdial so I just put one of these in the "Init2 = .." lines in wvdial.conf. Search for a page w/ modem commands on.. there will be a one you that can send which makes the modem list all of its commands, so you can see which ones control the speaker volume.
