Took about half an hour to load 2K, and another half hour to load Slack. Took another three hours to get both of them installed and able to boot!:D Bokkenka 08-30-2002, 09:39 PM Compaq Presario 725. Athlon 4 1600+, 256MB, 20GB. Dual boot RH 7.3, and XP Home. Although, I haven't been into XP more than a couple times since I installed RH. Installed pretty easily... Only problem was sound, but that cleared up with the first kernel upgrade. The only thing I haven't tried is the modem. SQFreak 08-31-2002, 01:03 AM On the Presario 700 series you need to compile the patch at http://www.sf.net/acpi into your kernel, otherwise your computer will overheat and crash. Sound can be fixed with an updated ac97_codec.c file. Processor throttling and limits can be done if you patch your kernel. The fan will run normally and the computer won't overheat *Michael Notforyou* Timothy L. Miller 08-31-2002, 03:01 AM Compaq Armada M300. P2 333 MHz, 256 MB, 20 GB. Running libranet 2.0. Everything working good, trying to get my wireless network card working whenever I think about it. cyberhwk 08-31-2002, 03:24 AM toshiba satellite 1755. Running redhat linux 7.3 Everything works fine on it.:D Rui Alves 08-31-2002, 05:34 AM I'm on a mandrake 8.2 compaq armada 110. No dual boot 100% linux certified. I installed mandrake a while ago and everything is ok. I only had a small problem in the beginning with the mouse cursor being out of place in X. that problem is now solved thanks to information I got in linuxnewbie some months ago. Now my machine acts as the network gateway and serves a win2000 box (internet sharing and file sharing). It's been a while since this laptop left my desk top. Spoticus 08-31-2002, 10:41 AM Got me an old HP Omnibook 4100 (free!) that's currently running Debian woody. The install is just over 140 megs :) including gui(blackbox) and all the apps I need. The only problem I've had at all is sound. Alsa (only thing that supports the cs4236 audio chip) has me pulling my hair out...no matter what's been tried, the modules won't compile =/ Hopefully soon though... itguy1978 09-01-2002, 10:33 PM Running Redhat 7.3 on Dell Inspiron 8000 Timothy L. Course, the battery is dead, and it'll cost me $300 if I want to replace it, but... TheBouleOfFools 09-02-2002, 05:47 PM Dell Inspiron 4150 w/Gentoo. Took about 2 days to get to GNOME. flav2000 09-02-2002, 11:36 PM Redhat 7.3 (Valhalla) on a Asus 7200, dual-bootign with Windoze 2000 SP3 Using both Gnome and KDE 3.x. Mostly KDE though. Btw, the hardware list is a Cel 366, 96MB RAM, SMI 910 graphics and OPL3 sound. I am still having loads of problem getting my Linksys PCMPC200 Cardbus Network card running. Hopefully that will be resolved soon. chelseagirl 09-03-2002, 03:42 PM I have SuSE 8.0 with a win 2k dual boot on a Sony Vaio PCG-FX and each day manage to get another bit working, in fact come to think of it, I hardly ever boot in to the other system - should take the plunge and burn my bridges? etc etc. nuggetman 09-03-2002, 08:34 PM Slackware 8.1 w/ WindowMaker on a Compaq Armada 1130T (120MHz, 48 megs o' ram, 1 gig o' disk space). Takes bloody ages to boot but runs beautifully. TheTTG 09-03-2002, 10:03 PM I run slackware 8.2 on a compaq presario 1210(P1 @ 150, 80 MB RAM) let's just say it runs less than decent -_- the sound doesn't work, and it is way too slow. Saptech 09-04-2002, 03:30 AM I got VectorLinux 2.0 with Fluxbox WM running a dual boot setup with Win98se. An IBM Thinkpad 380XD, 233mhz, 96mb of ram, 4gb HD. Everything works great, I'm able to get on net using the Networking PC Card but having a helleva time getting my Zonet 56k modem card working and it's suppose to be a HW modem. It seems to be setup correctly but when I get PPP to dial, I don't hear the phone dialtone. Any suggestions for getting it to work? Sound was a bit of problem to get working, so I ended up buying the OSS drivers and now its sounding great! Stween 09-04-2002, 09:16 AM Sony vaio PCG-FX702 (dunno what the US model number is). Mobile AthlonXP 1400+ (1.2GHz), 256MB ram, 20GB HD (completely devoted to slackware 8.1), CDRW/DVD combo drive. Which is quite nice. Only problem I've had is sound. Can't get the onboard sound working. Listed as "VIA Technologies, Inc. VT82C686 AC97 Audio Controller" when I do a 'lspci -v', I haven't had a single squeak out of it yet, despite having the 82C686 audio codec compiled into the kernel. I just haven't put enough effort into getting sound working yet, obviously. lilrabbit129 09-07-2002, 02:54 PM Compaq Armada 4125D P1 120mhz, 24MB of RAM, 2 GB HD CD-ROM, Floppy. Mandrake 8.1, Blackbox & IceWM 100 linux, takes a little while to boot, but it's fine for typing and programming. IT'd be nice to be able to get more RAM for it though... justlinux.com
