If you find the ISO image(s) of a Linux distribution you can simply burn it, there are no problems. That to install it just boot with the cd-rom inserted (if your bios support this), otherwise you have to make a boot floppy.

http://www.linuxiso.org/
or directly on the web site of the distribution that you want. Most of them are downloadable, others not (SuSE for example, as I know).

Remember that an *.iso file is an image file. Before burning, read the help for your cd burning software and make sure you burn the iso as an image

To add to fancypiper's post, if you end up with just one file on the CD (an .iso file), it won't boot. You need a whole bunch of files there, directories, and such.

I thought it was clear that an ISO is to be burnt as an image and not as a normal file.. sorry I'll be more precise next time..
