 The mouse problem: I can get the mouse to work just fine in kde, gnome and all those as long as that is where I set that to boot automatically to during setup. If I log out I immediately lose the control of the mouse even when I relog onto any of the xwindows gui's. What I have is a microsoft intellmouse optical usb. And it doesn't change no matter what usb port I change it to.

The video card problem: I have a agp 3d prophet 4500 w/o tv out 64mb. It is based on the Kyro II chipset and I cannot get it to boot up any GUI when I set it to anything beyond 16bit color.

System: asus a7v classic via kt133 chipset, soundblaster live, dlink network card, cable modem (external ethernet), 900 mhz thunderbird, 256mb ram.

I'm as new as they come to linux but I'm really sick of Microsoft XP and thier limited configuration options. Any help is greatly appreciated.

What kernel are you running? Possibly a later kernel would support those better.
