xmms problems

Sorry to bug everyone again but I am haveing problems running XMMS when I run in terminal I get the error
"mcop warning: user defined signal handler found for SIG_PIPE, overriding arts_init error: can't connect to aRts soundserver"
I can play the files find in xine. any help would be great, TIA.

try running artsd before running xmms

If KDE isn't running, then neither is arts. If your XMMS output plugin is set to arts, then it probably won't work outside of KDE, unless you manually start artsd.
