I have RedHat 6.x and for some reason I am unable to run KDE as root (Gnome seems to work fine). I suspect that something was corrupted during a recent crash.

I was wondering how to get the KDE working again. A friend suggested I delete the KDE files from under the /root/Desktop and it should be rebuilt the next time I rebooted. However he wasn't a 100 percent sure.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

if it is just a setting and not permissions issue that is keeping it from working you can delete the /root/.kde dir and it should work but you will loose all your configuration settings and such.

Unfortunately I don't have a /root/.kde directory. What I do have is a /root/Desktop directory that has several *.kdelnk files within it.

There is also a symbolic link to LinNeighborhood

Included are several more directories such as
/root/Desktop/Templates that has more *.kdelnk files within it.
/root/Desktop/Autostart containing nothing
and the last directory is /root/Desktop/Trash.

Thanks!
