If you want to dual-boot with windows and linux then most people seem to use partition magic. If you want to install linux only on the system then you will have a chance to partition the drive duing installation on most distro's. If you do need to move partions (eg: setting up a dual-boot with windows already installed on the whole drive) to install Linux there is still no need to buy. There are several excellent freeware programs. Most mainstream distros have excellent partioning applications. justlinux.com
