I just got a laptop, and I'm trying to play some mp3 files. Unfortunetly, it skips too much to listen to.

I tried several different options and mp3 decoders...but still nothing. The laptop is a Compaq Persario 1621 (k6-2 233mhz 32mb ram) playing through the command line (although Xmms dosent work either)
I'm running a very minimal install of slack (basicly, theres no other services running in the background besides what I need.

Any ideas?

Seems like I had to run the MP3 player SUID root to prevent that on my laptop.

where are the MP3s? On the hard drive, or a CD?

I guess I should try to help now.

These are the Google search results (http://www.google.com/linux?site=search&restrict=linux&hl=en&lr=lang_en&safe=off&q=mp3+skipping&btnG=Google+Search). I did see a few suggestions on a couple I read.

Hope it does help.

I did a google search...but not those exact terms...I'll take a look at that when I get home. I think it might have somthing to do with my 32MB of ram....
