i've found that sendmail will send mail out but on the local domain it will not send out to the isp's smtp server like normal, but simply stores in a queue until the user logs in which is undesirable

how can i make sendmail send out the local domain's mail also?

Isn't it supposed to store local mail?

Yes, sendmail can be setup to send and receive mail on a local and external basis, and usually the default setup will allow sendmail to send mail out, but since the ISP hosts our mail and we host our web and ftp services, we have a unique setup that's kind of weird to trouble-shoot

My advice is to not use Sendmail. Its buggy, full of security wholes, and is a PITA to configure.
