I have a system with Windows XP on disk 1, Linux on disk 2. The system has an internal PCI, 56K Copper modem.

On the Linux side I have Mandrake 8.2 installed. The modem is configured as /dev/ttyS0, I did not change any of the other kppp configuration values.

When I attempt to connect using kppp I get a message "Modem ready" then I get "Sorry, the modem does not respond."

On the XP side the modem works fine, I can browse the web.

So, what could be the problem?

Check the modem NHFs. There is a lot of information there. Also do a forum search with winmodem as a key phrase. The reason I say this is not to be a prick, but I'll bet my dinner that the answer is archived here somewhere - as this is a very common question. We are here to help when you have tried the obvious and are stuck, not to teach you to search and read.

I see you have only one post, and I apologize for sounding like a bastage.
