This one is kind of strange. Whenever something trys to use the mouse, the keyboard stops responding and the mouse doesn't work either. I can still log in remotely and kill the proces. Most of the time it seemed didn't fix the problem, but at least this morning I was able to continue using the keyboard.

This was a working system as of a two days ago. I do run Debian unstable and have updated a bunch of packages lately. But no one else seems to be having any problems. Any ideas where I can look for problems? I've skimmed /var/log[messages,dmesg,syslog,gdm] and the startx logs and didn't notice anything out of the ordinary.

EDIT: fixed some punctuation

Any pointers would be much appreciated

Do you get the same problem with using the mouse under gpm in the console? If not, it may be just an X problem. Or if it works in X and not the console, try the other way around. Also check /var/log/XFree86.0.log. The EE lines are errors and WW are warnings.

Yeah it's gpm and X. Unfortunately the logs don't show anything unusual. Just the normal error about not being able to find mga_hal and disabling dri.
