Ok let me tell you what I have already tried.

* I checked the linux on laptops page and my laptop, which is a Toshiba Satelite 2710xDVD laptop i slisted.
* I read info on it, which said that linux runs fine. It also stated tha X11 as well as sound worked. I can get sound to work no problem.
* When I try to run XF86Config and set all the options that are required and try to run X, the screen goes blank. Sometimes I am able to switch back to a terminal, and sometimes, not even special function keys that are for specific use with the laptop dont work and I have to reboot by means of the reset switch.

Specs for X
Trident Cyber9525 with 2.5MB of video RAM
800x600 laptop screen and there was no option for a laptop screen in XF86Config
64MB RAM with PS/2 internal mouse, not touchpad.
I am using Debian Potato 2.2 with the default 2.2.17 kernel.

Any suggestions would be greately appreciated.

Thanks.

do you have framebuffer support compiled into your kernel? I have a toshiba 4270 that wouldn't run X until i compiled fb into the kernel. if you get the gif of the penguin in the top left of your screen during the dmesg part of start up then you do....
