Besides having a router on your broadband internet connection is there any other software for linux that you could use to monitor outgoing traffic (i.e. like Zone Alarm for windows)? Would bastille work, or are there some other/better ones? How about iptables? Thanks in advance.
Edit: Just noticed the security forum:o, if someone could move my post over there, thank you.

The Security NHF's should help to get you started.
I also believe there is a Linux specific site. www.linuxsecurity.org or .net

if you want to just monitor activity, you can get some dock app or something like gkrellm.
http://web.wt.net/~billw/gkrellm/gkrellm.html
if you want a closer look at what is going on:
tcpdump
etherreal:http://www.ethereal.com/
etherape:http://etherape.sourceforge.net/
trafshow
if you run servers: MRTG : http://people.ee.ethz.ch/~oetiker/webtools/mrtg/
