i know l its been a long time and no
hear...its your ole pal from way back...hope that things have been going well for you ...u remember that i'm a ole prolinea 486 owner?? and you help me alot getting a isa cdrom controller to allow cd usage. somehow later on i locked up the 700mb HD on the old machine!anyway i sort of let things go for months and decided recently to try and get the half or partially loaded Lilo from holding things in Limbo...uh i still can get back to DOS or past 2 CLI letters "LI"(Tyranny?)..my old freind i'd like to get back to just using the old prolinea for normal use HELP HELP HELP mojo x all others' tips or hints welcomed :p

i am not a LILO expert

my best fix for LILO problems is to use a boot disk and not install LILO! :D

but i have fixed a LILO problem a couple times by following the steps in posts here and stuff in some NHF's

lemme look around, be back in a minute, some actual smart dude will probably post up the answer before i return ;)

i want Lilo out! i cannot get the system to except a normal boot disk with fdisk,format etc...and i dont have a linux boot disk. also i cant get Part Magic or like program to partition and format over Lilo. i think i have a half or incomplete ver of Lilo take over. all i get at CLI on bootup is "LI" and a cursor...thats it. i cant go anywhere else. also have been looking for a utility that can be loaded from A: that will wipe the LILO fragment out. mojo x

ok, that i can handle

download ranish partition manager (http://www.users.intercom.com/~ranish/part/), then boot with a regular DOS boot disk, and run ranish partition manager

it will let you delete the linux partitions and has an option to replace the mbr or ipl with a default/standard copy, i forget where exactly it is, but look around , it will kill lilo on your disk ;)

mista FotBot thz for your help but i sill wuz unable to wipe out the Lilo fragment! my HD still remains captive! one of the main problems is that i never wzu able to get the cdrom enabled and additionally its an old compaq makes additonal problems. i have spent mucho time on all these problems for a 700mb machine! i think that i am going to get rid of the compaq limit and find a generic socket 2 or 3 mobo in future for experimenters machine. as things stand now it wont even detect A:. yeah some serious inaccessibilities.it could not see Ranish file.well enough, i need to leave my little proj alone and get a social life. thz will chk back from time to time. mojo x

thz for the reply mdwatts 3rd. what you're saying is that i need to simply put a modified win bootdisk with format/mbr on it into A:\. at the blinking cursor with "LI" showing type format\mbr and i will regain control by using these commands? if so ok i will try in few days....as things stand now the box doesnt seem to see a standard win bootdisk at A:\ but i will try again soon... by the way the 700mb hd is a old preprietary!!!! thz to all for advice mojo x

If you set the boot order in the bios to boot floppy first, then it shouldn't have any problems booting from any kind of bootdisk beit dos, windows or linux.

Give it a try and it should work.
