Are there any software packages out there to make life easier playing DnD? Like something to do dice rolls, initiative rolls, rules consulting, creating dungeons, etc?

Icarus 08-21-2002, 11:51 AM I've run into a few, but can't remember where... try searching www.google.com/linux or www.freshmeat.net or www.sourceforge.net It had to be in one of those :D nunder 08-21-2002, 11:58 AM Are you wanting someting to play D&D with Linux, or something to automate a real game? I found a neat little proggie called angband that's a little console (text) based D&D game. Really a nice little 'time passer'. The folks in my office are completely clueless, so anytime they see a command prompt or terminal window up, they just assume that it's something VERY important. I think i found it with google. Icarus 08-21-2002, 12:14 PM Interesting one... http://thangorodrim.angband.org/ it's not what he's looking for but kind of like nethack :) He needs a Game Master Aid tool or something like that...handles the dice rolls, some rules and dungoen generation would be a nice feature :) Frith 08-21-2002, 07:13 PM Angband makes me barf. Sure, you have all that 19-sided dice rolling and a whole bunch of other DnD stuff, but it seems to lack some of the qualities that make nethack such a great game. For example, there are no corpses left after you kill monsters. How realistic is that? And then there are the tiles that look like absolute crud in Windows... And it's all Tolkien-world stuff! I don't always want to be an elf, or an orc, or a human. I'd like to be a wizard, a barbarian (a Frenchman), or a valkyrie. But then again, I've never really been into DnD games myself. I remember making a kid swallow his 11-sided dice my sophomore year of high school...ah, the memories. Sastraxi 08-22-2002, 11:23 AM As far as my memory serves 11 sided dice and 19 sided dice don't exist... :p Frith 08-22-2002, 11:36 AM Originally posted by Sastraxi As far as my memory serves 11 sided dice and 19 sided dice don't exist... :p Liar! ;) DOlson 08-23-2002, 03:18 PM In answering the original question: BioWare should be releasing the Linux binaries for Neverwinter Nights any month now... ;) NecroLin 08-23-2002, 04:01 PM I think that Linux is in need of some good native AD&D type games. Maybe even something like Might & Magic, that was a wicked game. Petemac 08-27-2002, 03:57 AM Might & Magic was done by lokigames, check out ebay possibly for a copy. nuvan 09-06-2002, 07:56 PM there is to such a thing as an 11/19 sided dice!!! *gets out hacksaw* here, i'll prove it to you... bogler 09-09-2002, 06:37 AM what are the best D&D genre games out there? I have a windows partition that i use for games, i used to love D&D and would like to lose myself in this fantasy world once again. thanks bogler ssjf 03-07-2003, 02:00 PM If you are looking for a character generator, look for pcgen on sourceforge. I think that it also handles some of the gameplay, but I'm not sure. Icarus 03-07-2003, 03:07 PM Personally, the older Gold Box AD&D games are my favorate. Some other older ones I liked are Fantasy Empires and Dungeon Hack. All AD&D based games. The new stuff they are putting out, to me, is mediocere at best. I tried to get into Baulder's Gate when it came out...but just couldn't get into it very much. Because of that, I'm still not sure about getting Neverwinter Nights...even IF the Linux client comes out ;) redcape 03-07-2003, 03:24 PM I think the OP was asking about roleplaying pen and paper RPGs, not computer RPGs. http://www.openrpg.com is designed to allow you to play pen and paper RPGs over the Internet. You could probably use it to help you during a real face-to-face game as well. Their site has links to other play aids such as character generators. justlinux.com
