I just installed Debian 2.2 on my second hard drive. Did a little messing and finally got X up. Can you lend a had with apt-get?? I just dont seem to understand what I am doing. I looked for some help online but I didnt seem to find out much that really helped.
Wanna lend a hand to a (former?) Mandrake user???

Which part don't you understand? You put Craig's monster list in /etc/apt (under the name sources.list) then you run apt-get update. Once that's done apt-get install licq to get licq. It's not hard to use.

I guess I was missing the apt-get update part. I will try that later.
Thanx,
Zach

I did an "apt-get update" and it went fine. Then I did an "apt-get dist-upgrade" and got some kind of error that seems to be perl related. I think I am just gonna wipe the disk and start again fresh tomorrow. Any advice that might help me would be appreciate.
-->Apt-get has turned my head on Mandrake. Oh lord...the debian bug has bit me. Ahhhhhh!!! ::runs away screaming with beer in hand::

Instead of running apt-get dist-upgrade try using apt-get upgrade. You will have better luck.

Well guys if you actually use that sources.list you will have to do some perl editing. If you were actually following debian you would note that perl5-6 screws up debconf, which will intern screw a whole bunch of other packages up. So it isnt as easy as you guys are trying to make it out to be.. jeepsta - good luck. I would replace all instances of unstable with testing in the sources.list for now..

Craigs sources list points to unstable. Stuff happens over in unstable, thats why its called unstable. For those who don't want to deal with it there is stable(potato), and now also testing(woody).
I thought perl was fixed but maybe not, I haven't really kept up. At one point you had to create a symmlink to /usr/bin/perl. After doing that I haven't had any problems with perl5.6

So what I need to do is go into the sources.list file and comment out all the unstable stuff...right? Or is there something else I need to do?
