KDM crashes horribly

im on slack 7.1 with kernel 2.4.0test11 (no bandwidth to download new kernel) and if i just start kdm as root, it works fine. I log in and X works just fine and good, but when I log out and when KDM is supposed to come back up, it doesn't! It's the weirdest thing. I get the white flash line things across the screen like when you start X and KDM tries to come back up, but for some reason it doesn't. Why would it be doing this?

by any chance are you using xfstt and ttfonts??I have the exact problem.I dont use kdm or gdm myself but I tried it because I was building a new box for someone and put slack on it.The new kernel works great on my boxes and the new one except when I use xfstt and boot to a gui login.

Why don't you just d/l and install the patches?

you know what i am using TTF's and that must be whats causing then! Agh.....
