I had my first attempt at installing Linux ( Red Hat 6.2 ) and received a strange error when it came to the partion section. I have a 10 GB hard drive with 5 other partitions. I freed up about 3GB for my 3 partitions I was going to use for Linux ( Swap, boot, root) I was able to create the swap partition using the Disk Druid, but when I get try to set up the boot partition I get an error stating the boot directory is too big. I had set it up with the recommended amount of 16MB. I am also running WIN 98 on primary. Any assistance would be great.

Did you verify that you were really setting the size as 16M and not something else?

It might help if you post your intended partition information also.

With the version of Lilo included with Redhat 6.2, you will need to create the /boot partition within the first 1024 cylinders of your HD due to a limitation of the older Lilo versions.

Either that or leave out the /boot partition and install Lilo in the mbr.

I always prefer a separate /boot partition of which I install the Linux bootloader into and then set that as the active partition.

There should be a NHF on overcoming Lilo limitations.

So would I have to move the whole Linux OS or can I just make space in the first 1024 for the 16MB for the /boot?

Just the /boot partition needs to be under 1024.
