Okee, what exactly is the diff, other than the obvious. Moreover, why would I not put it in the MBR?

Maybe because I want to boot from some other manager in the MBR like NT's OS Loader? (I know it likes to control ****e and doesn't cope well outside the MBR.

Would that be the only reason?

I plan to build a system (am doing it now) that boots 3 ways (Red Hat, Drake, Slack).

I am installing RH right now... I still wanna put LILO in the MBR, right?

Yah, the only reason I won't put LILO in the MBR is if I am dual booting with NT.

When you install the first distro, then put LILO in the mbr. For the other distros, skip lilo, then go back to the original distro and edit the lilo conf to point at the others.

sorry to invade you post with questions but i thought LILO couldn't load an OS after the 1024th cylinder. Is this true?

I know at least that the Win2k version of the NTloader does not reside in the MBR. But I found it easier to have the NTloader boot lilo.
