I am brand spanking new to linux. Have not even purchased it yet.

I was wondering which version I should get if I wanted to run a website on it? I want to be able to network this at home with one or two other computers.

Of course I would need a firewall. Does linux act as a firewall also?

I appreciate any help!!!

Any major distro will work for this.
It may be helpful to search this forum a bit, because questions
similar to this get asked quite often.

Everybody has their favorite distro. I would recommend trying a few different ones and deciding for yourself. If you have a high speed connection, you can download them for free, or you can spend a few bucks at places like http://www.cheapbytes.com for some CDs.

Thanks for the help.

Do all distro's have a UI or are they typically command line?
On linux.org I saw many different downloads. Some for servers and such. For what I am attempting to do with it and considering how new I am to this would a serer version be a good idea? Or does it even really matter?

Most distros have a GUI, only a few specialized don't.
www.linuxiso.org is a good site for downloads.

Because virtually every desktop distro includes the apache
web server, you can take one of them, play around a little,
and once you're familiar with it set up the server.

But you'll need to read quite a bit in order to really get familiar
with your distro. Therefore buying a cd-set that comes with
books might be a good idea if you're willing to spend some
money. The books coming with SuSE Linux are actually quite good,
and so might be others.

The choice is up to you!
