Main Computer (Only one worth mentioning- I have one other as a web / ftp server running RedHat 7.3):

- P4 1.8A @ 2.4Ghz
- 133Mhzx4 FSB on an MSI 845 Ultra-ARU w/4 USB 1.1, 4 USB 2.0, and Promise ATA133 RAID on-board
- Powercolor Geforce 2 GTS (I'd say the only POS part on my setup)
- 512MB Corsair DDR Ram (2-2-2-7 timings)
- 40/12/48x TDK VeloCD Burner
- 16x Pioneer "Blue Bezel" DVD-ROM
- Antec SX-830 (or something like that) case- pretty nice and roomy
- 4x 54cfm case fans from http://www.coolerguys.com - they are loud but very efficient
- 1x 18" Yellow Rounded Cooler Master Floppy cable with pulltabs (and a generic-*** floppy drive- TEAC I think)
- 4x 24" 2-device Red Rounded Cooler Master ATA 133 cables with pulltabs
- 2x 120GB Western Digital ATA100 7200RPM 8MB Cache "Special Edition" Hard Drives (for massive hardware-striped multiple partition shared FAT32 space for Windoze and Linux)
- 1x 80GB Western Digital ATA100 7200RPM 8MB Cache "Special Edition" Hard Drive for booting (3 FAT32 partitions, again to share with linux)
- Logitech Optical Freedom Pro Keyboard and Mouse
- NEC FP955 19" Flat-Faced (not panel) monitor (1600x1200x32Bpp @85Hz = GOOD :) )
- 512MB CF Card and reader for small file and MP3 storage for iPAQ 3650 (with Silver Slider CF card sleeve)
- Altec Lansing ADA305 Dolby Digital Speakers (ok- but I'd go with Klipsch if I could buy new ones today)
- Turtle Beach Santa Cruz sound card (GREAT sound)
- Microsoft Force Feedback Wheel (USB- I like playing NFS Porsche Unleashed on it :) - hey I can at least PRETEND I have a Porsche right?)
- HP 932C Photo Printer (nothing special but does a surprisingly good job at printing great pictures)
- HP Scanjet 4300C scanner (got a great deal on it at CompUSA of all places)
- Sony Digital Mavica CD300 (3.0 MPixel, burns pictures straight to CD, has buffer so you can shoot and burn at same time, but still not as speedy as CF or Memory Stick cameras however the media is VERY inexpensive :) - I use CDRW's so it's even cheaper)

OS's:
- Windows XP on 80GB drive
- RedHat Linux 7.3 on last 20GB's of 223GB* RAID array (nice performance and I mount the other 280GB between RAID array and 80GB HD using webmin / fstab anyway - if you are going to run Promise Fasttrak RAID then make sure to visit http://www.promise.com and look under product support for RedHat driver / how-to guide)

FYI - I bought this stuff over an extended period of time - I don't even want to think about how much I spent on it. Bought most of the stuff at http://www.newegg.com - they have AWESOME prices (on most items - make sure to factor in shipping as well).

Anywho- that is my setup. I know that is more info than most people wanted to know, and I am not some kind of computer elitist- I am just kind of proud of my setup. :)

And YES most of this stuff IS running in RedHat 7.3 in one form or another (haven't gotten around the Force Feedback Wheel yet - don't even know if it can be done - but I'm sure I could do a Google or a Forum search to find instructions :) )

I'm out-

No problem at all.

If the question is to help you decide what hardware components to use with Linux, then of course this is a valid question for the Hardware forum.

Otherwise if you are just asking for the sake of having others post their hardware, then the question should be asked in the /dev/random forum.

Have a look at the /dev/random forum and you'll see what I mean.

No you can't, but figured I might as well go alone with it.

Now if The_Dewster decides to get the same components as I have, then I guarantee it will work with Linux.

Cost a few $$ though.

I would really suggest for anyone deciding what hardware to purchase, to have a look at their distros Hardware Compatibility List.

I'd kill for your system. The only "Special thing" I have now is the ability to hook it up to a TV (for viewing files I download) and I have it hooked up to a 5 speaker Bose Lifestyle system (over priced ($2300) and I never use it). Should have bought a good computer with that cash.

They're very very good indeed. I didn;t think Louise would use it much so didn't want her to get one as they're around £300 but she really wanted it and after trying out many different PDA's she decided on the Zaurus without any nagging from me. First thing I got her to do was install a terminal which is great! She'll be getting a wireless network card soon to go with our wireless network that I install after we move into our new house (next week) :D

Finally got my #2 computer working with Knoppix by switching the hard drive from primary to secondary, thus moving cd's from secondary to primary.
