Ok, the latest stable kernel is 2.2.18, so why is there a 2.0.39-pre1 kernel? Was that ditched for 2.2? Also what is the 2.3 series for? I would have though all the 2.4-testwhatever kernels that have been released would have been 2.3-whatever and then when it goes stable become 2.4, so what is the point in 2.3?

There is a patern to the madness ...
-The NHF
-Kernel How-To, www.linuxdoc.org (http://www.linuxdoc.org)
I believe the 2.3's are test kernels, 2.4's (as of now) are all beta and 2.2's are the latest stable kernels. There should be an explanation at at least one of those resources :-).
