Hey everyone. Up untill this past monday night at 12:30 am (technically tuesday morning) I was a Windows user. It is sad but true, and now I have seen the light that we call linux! :D However, just like every other person I need help, especially with WINE! I searched all over the forums and google.com/linux for instructions.. I found TUNS of people with my same question. They all got answers, but when I tried to follow the instructions in the answers it just got way to complicated! I'm running Mandrake Linux 8.2 on a Sony Vaio (came with WinXP, but I got rid of it). The specs are an 80 gb hard drive, 1.7 Ghz, and 256 MB of ram. I'm not sure if all that was neccesary, but I put it there just in case. The version of WINE i have is: wine-20020710. So, if anyone could respond with simple, step by step instructions that a brand new newbie could understand I'de greatly apreciate it! And thank you!

using the terminal type cd to get into the folder the app is in

type wine appName.exe

ex:

cd /mnt/windows/myApps
wine blablah.exe

should run it fine

The version of Wine you gave isn't exactly right, that is the build date tacked on at the end...where did you get Wine from? Was it on your CDs or did you download it from www.winehq.org or www.codeweavers.com ?

You can read through the Wine user doc (http://www.winehq.com/Docs/wine-user/) which gives you examples of wine.conf files you need in your $HOME/.wine directory...

Sony Vaio (came with WinXP, but I got rid of it).

Errrrr...why would you want to use wine when you don't even have windows on the same drive anymore:confused:
