Hello all,
I installed RH 7.0 and finally got my sound card (aureal vortexII) working the other night. But I constantly run into problems when trying to add RPM's and XMMS hangs the desktop and wont let me exit. Could these issues be related to the compiler and kernel-header differences Redhat put into version 7.0?? I am greatly considering putting 6.1 back on this dual boot box. Can anyone name anything I will lose by going back to 6.1? I mean I can still use the latest Gnome right? The only thing I can think of that I will lose is usb device support, but I guess I can still update the kernel to support that too.

TIA for your learned opinions.

RH7 includes some bleeding edge stuff indeed. Going back to 6.1 or 6.2 would be no real issue as long as you make sure to install all the updates.

The only other issue you might run into is that it might be a little more work to upgrade to the 2.4 kernel when it finally becomes stable but other than that, no big deal.

If you do go back, check out aduva. They have some sort of apt-get like thing for RH62 and maybe even includes RH61 with dependency checking and resolving.

Thanks for your reply. I found an update to a c-library tonight that fixed the xwindows hang at exit. I will stick it out with Redhat 7.0 for a bit longer.
