Whats a really good media player

I tried getting realplayer 8.0 but it froze my system everytime i tried to use it. What else is out that that can play most formats at good quality? Thanks in advance.

Media player is a vague description. what formats do you need to play?

I'm kind of partial to aKtion, although it chokes on mpegs. KDE Multimedia Player plays most MPEGs fairly well, so they go fairly well together.

now what about avi's? I tried mplayer and went insane after 4 hrs of constant work to make all the errors go away. I found that aviplay which wasn't too bad in the install could play my movies at better quality (porn or no porn) then windows.

mplayer sucks.

It took me a few minutes of using it to realize I already had much better players with:

xine....DVD
enjoympeg (http://people.freenet.de/for_Ki/)....mpeg
aviplay....avi

enjoympeg and aviplay loop clips fullscreen. Did someone mention pr0n? ;)
