as u can see by my specs im running apretty decent system so its not a hardware problem.. but in my xmms it clips and messes up bad... as im typing each letter it cut some sound... like if i put my mouse over a link it makes a crackley pop noise during the music...

its as if im playing this on a 33mhz system its baddddd.... i then gave it "realtime priority" but it made no difference..

anyone?

Try using a different output plugin, especially if you're using the esd plugin. Use oss in that case.

Your motherboard wouldn't happen to include the Via Kt133 or Via Kt266 chipsets would it??

Via and SB have issues with one another *precisely* as you describe.

Uhhh, he's running a Pentium 4...those chipsets are AMD chipsets. Therefore I'm going to have to say that he's not using one of them...
Not to mention he's running RDRAM, and VIA doesn't have a chipset that supports RDRAM, they use all SDRAM or DDR, therefore he is using some flavor of the intel i850 chipset, unless his board is REALLY new and he's using the SIS 748.

Did you try another output plugin?

Can you adjust the mixer volumes and your actual speaker volumes to get rid of the hiss?

Are you using the correct modules/drivers for you soundcard?

Anything on the xmms site on hissing problems?

Hey ya,

Actually, MD hits it on the head. I use to have that problem, and I have the same type of Soundcard as you, but on a P2 400 with 128 SDRAM, and I work just fine now.

It's usually the level of your sound, for your giving to much power to the card, or your speakers. Now, since I have it turned down a bit, and with the "Pre-Amp,' it sounds so clean. I can hear everything.

Adios,
Ali

Volume controls on the actual speakers?

Adjust them to medium volume and do the same with the sound mixer.

ok well the problem was when i turn anything up to be comfortably loud... its very very hissy... and software control of the volume wont work... so if i turn it down with the actualy speaker controls it too low... its if its decent then its very hissy

:D
