Okay, my first problem is that every time I go to shutdown Linux, I type "shutdown now" and then press enter. Then the computer proceeds to do it's thing until it reaches a point where it says, "Current state: Single-user (system maintenance) Clearing the current IPVS table." At this point, the mouse stops responding, the hard drive does a little bit, but then it stops there. The computer just freezes up. So I then have to push the power button to turn it off manually. It only does this when turning the computer off, but it does not do it when I type "shutdown -r now" to reboot the computer. When I reboot the computer it reboots normally without any problems.
My second problem is that when I try to run TuxRacer, I get the error message, "*** tuxracer error: Couldn't initialize video: couldn't find matching GLX visual." I have a GeForce 2 MMX 400, and I think I just upgraded the XFree 86 on my computer to the latest version, but I'm not quite sure if it worked. It seems like the installation and configuration worked fine. Anyway, any help would be greatly appreciated. :)
BTW, I'm running the Mandrake Linux 8.1 distro.

Have you tried

shutdown -h now

-h = halt

Just a guess... Do you have Load "glx" in the module section of /etc/X11/XF86Config (-4)?

Section "Module"
Load "dbe"
Load "glx" (THIS ONE)
Load "extmod"
Load "record"
Load "xie"
Load "freetype"
Load "type1"
Load "v4l"
EndSection

Okay, that worked pretty well, except my computer still doesn't use the 3D hardware accleration part of the video card, so I get like 1 frame every five seconds or something. If choose to use XFree86 4.1.0 (I think) with 3D hardware acceleration, every time I start X the screen blinks on and off and then Linux gives me error messages. Any ideas?

BTW, I think...I'm running XFree86 4.2.0 but how do I get it to use 3D hardware acceleration?

X -version will tell you what version of X you are running.

Have you installed the nvidia drivers or are you using the 'nv' driver included with X?

www.nvidia.com and follow the readme.
