I'm looking for a batch decoder/encoder for linux, similar to dbPowerAmp for windows. I'm actually trying to convert an mp3 to an ogg, but so far all the options I've found preserve the bitrate. I'm encoding from 256kbps Mp3 to 160kbps OGG.

I wouldn't know of any myself since I don't bother with mp3's etc.

How about searching the application database at freshmeat.net ? You may find what you are looking for.

Oooh! That site's worth a bookmark.

Unfortunately, I could only find the same Mp32Ogg that I was looking at last time. Maybe I'll use my perl skills to tweak it a bit :)

Now, while I appreciate the support of Ogg Vorbis ... why would you convert from one lossy format to another? The sound can only sound worse.

Also, the commandline mp3 and ogg players can decode to a file, mpg123 and ogg123 (or 321, I forget).
