eerg..telnet and ftp?

Hey gang, its been a while,
Here is the situation. Yesterday, upgrade to glibc and glibcso from 2.1 to 2.2. Today, can't telnet or ftp into the machine. Are the two related, or is it just because of our crappy network here?
Any Ideas?

The daemons are running, but if you try to connect, the connection is immediatley refused.

do you have anything in your /etc/hosts.allow or /etc/hosts.deny files? they could cause you not to... i would put in the deny file: ALL:ALL , and in the allow, your ip address you're loggin in from... i don't remember the exact format for the hosts.allow, but you can probably find an example in the comments of the file

Is it refusing the connection outright? Or will it just not authenticate?
