Jon 'maddog' Hall, of Linux International, will be discussing Linux evangelism
at the Linux Users' Group of Davis, in Davis California.

The Linux Users Group of Davis (http://www.lugod.org) will be meeting at Sudwerk (http://www.lugod.org/meeting/sudwerk) restaurant and brewery in
Davis California on August 19th. Guest speaker Jon 'maddog' Hall, of
Linux International (http://www.li.org) will be presenting a talk
entitled: "Effective Linux Evangelism: Guerilla tactics for the masses."

How do you convince someone to use Linux? What are the things you tell
them to win them over? Too many times Linux advocates talk about the
advantages of "Open Source" and "Freedom of software" when the listener
only wants to hear "save money" and "easy to use." Alternatively, how
does the Linux community fight organizations with much more marketing
money than the Linux community can gather?

Jon "maddog" Hall has been in the computer industry for over thirty years,
advocating what we now call "Open Source" and "Free Software." He has
been a programmer, systems designer, technical marketing manager,
systems administrator and is now the Executive Director of
Linux International.

Before that he worked for companies such as Compaq,
Digital Equipment Corporation, Bell Laboratories and
Aetna Life and Casualty. He taught at Merrimack College and
Hartford State Technical College, where as Department Head of
Computer Science he earned the nickname of "maddog" from his
students.

This event is free, and open to the public. For more
