I could really use your help. I really like Debian, but I need an office program in addition to Abiword. Do you know of any that I can apt-get?
I've got a Mandrake 7.0 CD with StarOffice 5.1, but I think it's an RPM.
Thanks for any help.

I can't think of one offhand aside from KWORD which comes as part of KDE2 so that's probably out of the question.
I haven't checked to see if Corel offers a free "pared-down" distribution of WordPerfect or not. If they do it would be on their ftp site you could add to your sources.list.
I'll look and see. I doubt it though.

Try 'lyx', or just use LaTeX.

I apt-got kde2.0.
It is too cool and also comes with Koffice. Very nice. http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/cool.gif

Just use alien:
# alien -i <pkg_name>
This will generate the deb file from the rpm and then install it.
PS apt-get alien if you don't have it.

DOH! I completely forgot about alien.
Of course, with the immense size of Star Office, it may take quite a while for it to undo the rpm and create the appropriate deb.
And koffice works pretty good... I have found that sometimes words simply disappear when typing. That could be difficult to explain. http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/eek.gif

You could download the StarOffice tar.gz file, and install it from that. I use Debian, and that's what I did. I also use KWord.
