you don't/shouldn't need one under linux due to the way the os works, unlike windoze.

There are a number of antivirus programs, but I haven't tried them and I don't know how effective they are.

You should make it a higher priority of securing your computer against hacker attacks.

You might also look into a program called tripwire.

You will only need it if you are using linux for serving e-mail to Windows computer users.

I came across something called avprolin once. Maybe you could search google for this. But I did not install since the website and other sources did not give me enough info regarding its suitability.

I agree that hacker attacks present more danger to Linux systems rather than the more prevalent Win32 / Word macro / script viruses. My distribution of Linux (Caldera OpenLinux Ws 3.1.1) installs with a default configuration of portsentry that protects against port scans etc. Also ensure that you don't use the HTML mail feature of KMail or your favourite e-mail client. I have just installed OpenOffice and find that it is JavaScript enabled. Need to disable this. I could not get tripwire working properly though. The nhbs on this site are useful for learning iptables etc for securing Linux systems.

I too would like to know if anyone knows of a good AV software and the reasons for requiring it on a Linux system.
