Here's an interesting problem to which I would love to have a solution.
I have a digital camera (Olympus) with a camera-serialport cable. My main system (which has X installed) has no free serial ports, but my router (headless, diskless, running local network daemons) has a free port. Is there any way to allow my main machine to use the serial port of my router?
Bandwidth isn't an issue because the camera can only support a few kb/s. I've tried creating a new device file and sharing it with samba, but the software on the main machine won't recognize it as a valid device file.
