Here is a list of stuff that I use:
Kmail: Great email program. Sorda reminds me of eudora. Ohh, how I love Eudora... http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/wink.gif
GnoRPM: I like this for installing and uninstalling RPM packages
LnxZip: Util that handles compressed files such as .zip, .bz, .gz, etc.
GnuCash: Good for keeping track of expenses of many types.
Gcompte: What I use just to keep my checkbook balanced. That is all it does, but that is all I needed.
XFCE: By far the best X-desktop. Easily configured and extremely fast.
CUPS: I like this for printer management.
Ark: Another Archive handler
Koffice: I like this office suite. It is not all done yet but still quite fast and useful.
Mozilla: My default web browser
Konqueror: I use this browser also.
Xosview: I like this system monitor (memory, cpu, load, etc.)
Quanta +: Pretty good for web design
Bluefish: Also excellent for web design
Vim/Gvim: I like VIM in general for coding.
There is a list to get ya started. Most of them are probably already on your machine under /usr/bin. You will notice some are Gnome apps, or KDE apps, or even X-Window apps. What can I say, I find what I like and use it.
