I have set my printer as Canon S400 when installing
Mandrake 8.2, but when I print a page, the image is very dim,
and doubled in size, so half of it spills over the page.

How do I identify my printer properly? Is there a driver I need to install?

Thanks for your assistance!

Marco

I always suggest trying www.linuxprinting.org for any printer problems or drivers. Give it a try.

I have found a solution!
1. Click on the black monitor in the taskbar to get Konsole

(alternatively, create a desktop shortcut to:
/usr/X11R6/bin/DrakConf)

2. Type 'DrakConf'. Supply root password

3. Click on Hardware -> Printer

4. Expert Mode

5. Change the Printing System: LPRng

6. Add New Printer

7. Printer manufacturer, model, driver -> Do It!

8. Canon BJC-3000/GhostScript + bjc 600, Click OK

9. Click Close

10. Quit, Close Mandrake Control Center

That's it. One day, Printer manufacturer will provide a shiny red button for us Linux users, until then, it's trial & error... and on-line forums!

Those Mandrake specific configuration apps should all be covered in the online documentation available at the Mandrake website.
