Home directories in NIS

How can I have a user loging on to a remote computer on a NIS system access it's home directory? Here's what's happening. I setup NIS, it works fine. The problem is that the first time I log on to the NIS client, it attempts to setup the desktop environment that is usually stored in the home dir. I receive an error that it cannot create the desktop file. If I manually create a home directory on the Client, then it works fine.

Any ideas? Do I need to setup /home through NFS?
