I just installed Mandrake 7.2 on my new computer. When I try to dial my ISP, KPPP says:

The pppd daemon died unexpectedly!
Exit Status 4

KPPP also pops up a window saying that my kernel (I'm using the optional 2.4.x that came on the CD) lacks ppp support. It suggests running /sbin/modprobe -v ppp. I tried this, and it says that the ppp module is not loaded. Does this mean I need to compile a new kernel? Or is there a way to add the ppp module? Any advice/thoughts/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

What? Umm... I am a new Linux user. I am currently running WinME right now, hence the reason I am becoming a new Linux user. (Redhat 7.0)
So you mean to tell me that if I install Linux that I am NOT going to be able to use my DSL connection!? My DSL runs on a PPP protocol... What the hell do I do NOW? I'm SICK TO DEATH of Winblows. Man... Am I EVER going to get to install Linux or am I going to keep reading things like THIS that continue to keep me living in fear of messing with it?

I'm not sure because I don't use Redhat. When I used SuSE, ppp worked when I installed it. I can't remember if it was a module or compiled into the kernel. With FreeBSD, it's compiled in the kernel. I'm pretty sure it could be easily loaded as a module though. I would suggest looking around in different configuration stuff if you're using X Windows to see if you can find it before someone more knowledgable can answer your question.
