If you have the full version of Unreal Tournament it is possible to install in on a linux distro. I've never done it but I'm pretty sure it's possible

To play windows games on linux you need to install an emulator, like Wine or Win4Lin. These allow you to run windows software on linux. They are sorta unstable and troublesome from what i hear, but they are getting more stable. They are definetly worth a try. I know many ppl who have gotten counter-strike to work on linux. They said it wasnt much harder than ne other linux software. Their performance is slightly worse than having an actual windows OS, but they should certainly be playable. I recommend thoroughly checking them out before deleting windows. Hope that helps you make up ur mind ;)

There is a thing called wine. It works for some games, but not others. Otherwise, for some games the source code has been released. SO if you own the game, it can be playing in Linux. I don't knw about everquest, search on google.

I've never heard of anyone getting Everquest to run on Linux. If you do please let us know or me at least :)

Wine is good for some games, Halflife runs great on it. Someone posted a description of how to get Diablo II with the expansion working with it.

For more Linux game info you can check out www.linuxgames.com (http://www.linuxgames.com)

answer to my own question:

No. EQ will not run on Linux because it requires DirectX. Neither Wine nor VMware will run it either because....there is still no directx. but thankfully they are working on that. =)

I got parts of Diablo2 working under wine the only problem like half-life is the driect draw_refresh function which doesn't really work so well. But ever since I got Lords of destruction and my /usr partition needed to be RMA'd I haven't been in linux lately.

my experiences on emulating windows to get games to work has been: it sucks!!

much better to run native code.

there are linux binaries for quake2 and quake3

quake2 runs fine at 800x600 in software on my 500MHz laptop, great for deathmatches at work ...

about all WINE can run hassle-free is notepad.exe ;-)
