I need help running Mandrake 7.1 I don't understand how to use it? I am trying to be able to using a graphical user interface but I can't figure how to install one? If anyone out there know how I would be grateful. All I get at the end of the message after it downloads is "Freeing unused kernel memory 136k freed" What am I doing wrong and what do I need to do to install kde, gnome or anyother such GUI? Please help I am ready to chuck this whole thing?
Thanks Mrdrum

Its kind of difficult to know what problems you are having without more information. The message you post is something that is displayed when linux is being loaded. And what do you mean by downloaded?
When you installed linux was x windows KDE,gnome, selected.
Is linux booting and do you see a login prompt?
I you don't have a linux manual then go and buy one. A lot of your basic questions will be answered. Or contact a local linux users group.

Your problem sounds very similar to this (http://linuxnewbie.org/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=57816) one.
Try hitting <Ctrl><Alt><F2> when the boot stops and see if you get a login screen.

I am going to stay with Suse 7.1 on my first hard drive. I am installing 1,770 software packages and I have a 30GB hard drive on my first drive.
On my second drive which is a 20GB I would like to install Caldera Open Linux. I think that would be O.K. if anyone has any information on whether or not that is good please let me know?
