I'm also in the middle of this situation, and there isn't much one can do, from what I can see.
You have two options:
1) Have a good look at the card, look for any part numbers, FCC ID number, names on the chipset, etc. Write them down, go to www.windrivers.com (http://www.windrivers.com) and see if you can't track the manufacturer down. If you find your model there, check out the compatibility list (I think there's one in the Networking HOW TO at www.linuxdoc.org (http://www.linuxdoc.org) ). It will tell you if your NIC is supported. I did this with a Winbond NIC recently, only to find that the NIC didn't work http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/frown.gif
2) Learn to write drivers http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/smile.gif
Good luck.

Mine does though. Unless it's physically bad, Winbound NICs do work. YOu just need to define optional parameters. What's your chipset?
