For all those who argue that <whining>Slackware Doesn't come with a package manager</whining> Please check out the following site: http://slaktool.sourceforge.net

They're adapting the package manager that currently comes with slack to be an awesome packagemanager with dependency checking and all that.

That's a nice idea!
That way you can have your cake and eat it, too! Kinda like Debian. http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/smile.gif
(Yes, I'm a Debian user but am getting an old box ready to install slack and play with it a bit.)

Conectiva just released their verions 6. It has a version of apt that is enhanced to install RPM's. I downloaded it last night and installed it but I'm still having some problems getting apt to work properly. When I run apt-get update, it errors out like crazy. I'm sure that it's just something I've done wrong or configured something wrong. I'm going to keep working on it.

By the way, I thinks that's a great thing that Slack is doing. It's sure to bring a lot of people to Slack. I'm definitely going to give it a try.

What distro are you using?
I decided to try Conectiva 6 to use the apt for rpm program. I do know that some people with rh7 have had issues with dependencies problems and such. Maybe the same for Mandrake 7.2.
But with Conectiva itself it works pretty well. Slight differences from the apt I know and love with my main debian system but it does work. I don't doubt there are wrinkles to iron out (especially since distros like rh7 are out there and not very stable or secure as it is).
Anyway, I think it's a step forward.
It may be a while yet before it'll work for all rpm-based distros like it works right now for all debian-based.
