I'm trying to get my redhat 6.2 box ready for collocation and I need to have everything start up automatically. I got ssh and apache to startup, but I can't figure out how to get Resin and my Sybase database to start-up on boot. I have a webuser and dbuser that run each. I also can't get them to run in the background. Can anyone help, I'm kindof new to this stuff, I inherited the project, I'm a programmer not a network admin.

This is just a guess, probably wrong, and probably not good practice even if it works, but have you tryed starting these services in a rc file eg. bash.rc? Or it's ssh equivelent. Perhaps init.d Just my 2 bits worth, maybe a lead for you to follow.

Yea, I tried that, but these processes need to be started as users other than root, so they can't start, I think. I think I have two problems.
1. I need to start and run resin and my database in the background, but I can't do that for some reason. I got the & and the end of the call, but they still start in the foreground. So when I start them remotely I need to keep the SSH window open that I started them in for them to keep running.
2. I need to start the processes on init so everything will work on boot. But Linux isn't suppose to crash, so if I could just get them to run in the background I could start them up remotely and log off and everything will work.

My posting this in your crosspost of the same question in Web Security
Welcome to Linuxnewbie, but please don't crosspost. It's not fair for others waiting for their questions to be answered.
in my opinion does not warrant a private message as yours. You try spending 3 - 4 hours a day here trying to help others and then have jerks like you waste my time with inconsiderate crossposting. You posted in the wrong list? Then delete the wrong one.

It looks to me that you aren't helping anyone, your just policing this site. Why don't you get offline for a while and get some sun. Maybe you'll lighten up a little.

Judging from the many 'thank-you's' I have received from some nice people here, I must be doing some good. How about you?
'Welcome to LNO, but please don't crosspost' does not in my opinion warrant a response such as yours.
Have a nice day and once again, welcome to LNO.
