When I try to run Half-Life and Quake3 under WINE on my slack 8 system (800mhz t-bird, kde 2.1.2, latest wine, gf2mx with working nvidia drivers), it says that it must run under 16-bit color!

Unfortunately, my desktop IS set to 24bit color!

Whats wrong here? How do I get wine to know I'm in a high enough bpp?

(another question that sort of goes along with this, is, how the heck do i get 32bit color?)

Thanks

You probably have to set your desktop to 16 bit color for it to work then.

On the desktop you only get 24 bit color, it's 8 bits for each red-blue-green channel. If it says 32 bits you're not actually getting any more bits for each color channel, it's just a marketting ploy, bigger sounds better. (unless an alpha channel is actually being used of course)

yeah half-life only runs at 16bit though if you grab half-life blue shift ( which is a great addition to half-life) it has something it says is enhanced graphics options. I installed it in windows and really didn't see a difference in quality. That possibly could be 32bit color.
