I am still having problems configuring X.
I have had to re-install 3 times due to
problems. My video card is not supported in Xfree86 4.0 but IS supported in Xfree84 3.3.6. Isn't that weird????
Anyway, I can configure X and it does display in all resloutions I selected, but there is still some text that looks like Barcodes. Other text looks fine.
My Debian and Red Hat installs do not have this problem. Am I missing something in the
Slackware install? Could I have a bad Slack
disk? The install goes well and boots fine every time. I can do anything from the command line. But when I startx the text looks wired and in some cases is comletely
unreadable.
This is usually in the windows and drop down menus. The title bars of the windows are unreadable while most of the stuff inside the
window is ok. This is really a sticky one.
I'm thinking of buying Accelerated X to try and get around this.
Thanks for the help.

Actually it makes sense since it's a new major version of XFree86 and they have to build all new drivers for the hardware out there. New accelerated servers are slowly being introduced though, you might want to check the release notes for 4.0.2 because support for several cards has been added and yours might be one of them.

As far as why your card works on other distributions and not in Slack, you might want to compare your XF86Config files (assuming you still have those other distros installed) and see if there are any major differences.
