I'm running Suse 8.0 (KDE) and Have a question. When I log in as Root and then log out all the changes I made are not saved. I check the "save session" box when logging out. The changes I make are task bar size and colors. I’m new to Linux so forgive me if the answer is very obvious and I’m not seeing it.
Thanks-

Many distros won't allow you to customize the root conifuguration. It's their way of saying "don't use root for anything more than absolutely necessary." I've never used suse to any extent, so I don't know if this is true for them or not, but that would be my best guess. Although you really shouldn't use root for anything more than absolutely necessary.

Why are you logging into X as root? There's no real compelling reason to do so.

I don't sign in as root often but I really dislike the default wallpaper. Having just switched from widows I am having trouble getting use to the permissions. I'm used to being able to look at and destroy anything I want. (lol) I really like Linux so far and am impressed with the way it picked up my hardware.
